The Skirr

THE SKIRR are an indie/pop/rock band from the Midlands, formed in 2012. The quartet is comprised of Chris Whyte (guitar, vocals), Gus Nicol (guitar, vocals), Rick Davies (bass, backing vocals), and Andy Walker (drums).

All members of The Skirr are adept at guitar, piano and a myriad of other instruments, with varying degrees of musical education, both scholarly and self-taught. Perhaps more importantly, though, all four members of the band are very proficient songwriters, each with their own distinct style.

They have a talent for writing melodic pop-rock and -punk tunes with catchy lyrics, vocal harmonies, and memorable guitar riffs. With Chris Whyte and Gus Nicol sharing the lead vocal duties, they have an arsenal of talent and skill at their disposal.

Chris Whyte said, "Having four songwriters in the band and a variety of different influences means our music is entertaining and unpredictable. Our show starts off with Weezer, then transforms into Mumford & Sons and then ends with The Beatles, but all songs still very much The Skirr."

The Skirr have made a small but significant impact on the local live scene in the Midlands. They have performed at numerous events, including Oxjam 2012 in Lichfield, Kerrang! Radio's Battle of the Musicians 2012 in Hednesford, and the Battle of the Bands 2012 at Staffordshire University, at which they were awarded the top prize.

Bassist Rick Davies added, "Our live set is quite varied. Some bands are quite predictable and each song sounds like the last. We like to keep our audience guessing. We have a solid mix of pop, rock, punk, and slower songs as well."

The Skirr recently recorded their début single - 'Steal The Sun' - which is set for release in June. The single was produced by Richard Wood and recorded at The Old Smithy (Robert Plant, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest).
